The Galerie Punchinello is located in the historic heart of the Marais district, between the Carnival Museum and the Picasso Museum. Dedicated to the ancient arts of Asia and Oceania since 1985, it organizes several thematic exhibitions every year.

Ancestor figure

East Sepik Province, Papua New Guinea.

Important male ancestor figure in hard wood.
He is represented in a standing position, with his back slightly arched and his feet extended. The arms are detached from the body, the hands resting on the hips.
The oval face has a barely sketched mouth and an elongated nose whose septum is pierced throughout.
The style is characteristic of the area located between the Keram River and the Porapora River, tributaries of the Lower Sepik.
Beautiful old patina of black brown color.
First half of the 20th century.
